There are several styles of hearing aids that are worn inside the ear. There is In-The-Ear (ITE) which sits in the ear opening, In-The-Canal (ITC) which sits in the canal of the ear, Invisible-In-Canal (IIC) and Completely-In-Canal (CIC) which both reside inside the canal and have no external components.
All of these in the ear styles of hearing aids are custom made to fit to the wearer’s ear. These styles are best for mild to moderate hearing loss and only the In-The-Ear (ITE) style could be used in severe hearing loss cases.
Each model would have specific benefits but overall they share some of the same benefits:• They are all custom fit to your ear specifically ensure a great fit• They are all small and light weight• Better at picking up high frequency sounds• They are for those that wish to have a discrete hearing aid that isn’t as obvious as Behind The Ear models• They are coloured to match the skin camouflage them to be even more discrete
There are some disadvantages besides the obvious, easy to misplace size, they tend to have smaller batteries which will require them to be changed more often. They also don’t tend to have all the features found in larger hearing aids and can be more difficult to use for those with larger fingers or dexterity issues.
We carry the largest number of brands in all of Canada and therefore can provide you with the largest selection of In-The-Ear, Invisible-In-Canal, In-The-Canal and Completely-In-Canal styles. We carry these hearing aids from companies like Phonak, Oticon, Starkey and many more. While most of these are for mild to moderate hearing loss some manufacturers still provide an impressive list of features. The one main consideration is that these styles of hearing aids all have to be custom moulded to the wearer’s ear which typically increases the price over BTE and RIC style hearing aids.
