Receiver-In-Canal Hearing Aids

RECEIVER-IN-CANAL HEARING AIDS (RIC)
Also known as RIC hearing aids Receiver-In-Canal is aptly named because of the clear plastic tube and soft tip that sit in the canal to provide the sound to your ear. The remainder of the unit then sits behind the ear helping this hearing aid to be far more discreet than Behind-The-Ear and In-The-Ear models and typically more comfortable than in the canal versions.
RECEIVER-IN-CANAL HEARING AID ADVANTAGES
This style of hearing aid is popular with most people because of it’s ease of use, comfort and performance. They offer several advantages:
• The size makes it easier to wear but will still require the ability to place the tube in the canal
• Good for all levels of hearing loss from mild to severe
• The tube in the ear provides sound without the ‘plugged’ feeling other styles can create
• Internal sounds like chewing can escape and are less noticeable and irritating
• The style and clear plastic tubing make it nearly invisible
• The separation of the receiver and unit allow for a smaller, lighter unit which can be an advantage and a disadvantage as it’s possible for them to come off and not notice they are missing

In addition to the advantages and brands of receiver-in-canal hearing aids, there are a few other things to consider when deciding if this type of hearing aid is right for you.
Firstly, it’s important to note that while RIC hearing aids are suitable for most levels of hearing loss, they may not be the best choice for those with very severe or profound hearing loss. In such cases, other types of hearing aids may be more effective.
It’s also important to consider your lifestyle and activities. If you frequently engage in activities that may cause the hearing aid to become dislodged or fall off, such as sports or physical labor, then a different type of hearing aid may be more suitable for your needs.
Finally, it’s important to consider your budget. While RIC hearing aids are available at a range of price points, they can still be a significant investment. However, it’s important to remember that hearing aids are an important investment in your quality of life and overall health and that the benefits they provide often far outweigh the costs.
If you’re unsure which type of hearing aid is right for you, it’s best to consult a hearing specialist who can evaluate your hearing needs and recommend the best option for your specific situation.
