How Behind-The-Ear (BTE) HEARING AIDS WORK

Also known as BTE hearing aids, these are the most common hearing aid and typically the ones people picture when discussing hearing aids.  This style of hearing aid sits behind the ear and are attached to ear molds that sit in the ear opening and help to secure the hearing aid in place and provide the sound to your ears.

 

BEHIND-THE-EAR HEARING AID ADVANTAGES

This style of hearing aid most common and are typically more affordable.   They offer several advantages:

  • Easier to wear regardless of age and manual dexterity
  • Good for those that have a draining ear or excessive ear wax that making wearing anything in the ear canal a problem
  • Good for those with smaller ear canals
  • Easier to clean than other models since nothing physically sits inside your ear
  • They are very versatile with different styles, sizes and colours available.
  • Is good for any range of hearing loss, including the most severe
  • Easier to control the volume manually through the controls on the unit itself

 

They also have their disadvantages which can include its size and visibility.  They can also be less comfortable because of their size and ear mold that bring the sound to your ear.
