Hearing Test & Assessment

hearing test and assessment

Your hearing health is important to us.

In today’s world and at any age, your hearing is at risk. It can deteriorate prior to any symptoms being noticed therefore, we recommend monitoring your hearing at least annually.  We are exposed to greater levels of noise than the genrations before us.  Our constant headphone use and exposure to a continuous noise source is the biggest concern, but even when we don’t have those in simply the noise we are exposed to during our commuting time, work time, living in a noisy city or by the airport all are a factor.   It’s not just factory workers or military that at high risk for hearing loss.

This is why we recommend a year hearing test.  The first acts as your benchmark but each year we can track any hearing loss and recommend solutions to minimize the damage.  There are a number of hearing protection options or earbud and headphone options that can help reduce the exposure to damaging noise levels.

We also offer online hearing assessments to determine if you or a loved one should receive a hearing test in one of our clinics.  They are offered below.

What You Can Expect with a Visit to Hearing Excellence:

Quick & Easy Hearing Assessment

When you come into our offices our experienced clinicians will obtain a thorough case history and discuss what your main goals are.  From there we will perform Otoscopy by looking in your ears to ensure they are free of wax or any medical abnormalities.  Using our state of the art equipment we will then perform Immittance Testing by putting a small ear phone in your ear to evaluate the status of your ear drum and middle ear. Pure Tone Audiometry and Speech testing are then completed in a sound proof room where you will wear earphones and be asked to respond to a variety of beeps and repeat back words.

Upon completion of the hearing test, our clinicians will take the time to explain the results and provide you with recommendations based on your case history, hearing test results and personal lifestyle.

What If The Hearing Test Shows Hearing Loss?

If your hearing test and assessment determines you have hearing loss the clinician will determine the level of hearing loss, if the loss is more prominent in one ear, if the loss is specific frequencies and based on this information would be able to determine the best solution for your needs.  It doesn’t always mean you need a hearing aid.  If it’s a mild hearing loss that still isn’t interfering with your daily life there are products tht might help such as personal audio amplifiers or smart earbuds that can amiplify sounds around you, steam music and cut out background noise.  Or perhaps you simply need some good noise protection.  These are all recommendations the clinician can make for you.

If your hearing test and assessment indicates that you have hearing loss and it is impacting your daily life then they may recommend hearing aids.  Based on your level of hearing loss, lifestyle and budget they can recommend the best type, brand and features to consider.  They can also confirm any insurance benefits, WSIB and financing options to help pay for the hearing aids.
